What is with the disruption (sometimes violent) of the health care congressional town halls? What’s with all of the yelling and screaming by people who think they have a right to shout down anybody who disagrees with them? I could have sworn the First Amendment (free speech ring a bell anyone?) was to protect the right of people to present and discuss (like reasonable human beings) issues and concerns common to our citizens.

Anyone ever been to a farm where they raise turkeys? (yes, I mean the kind you eat on Thanksgiving)

When something, a noise, flash of lightning, etc., disturbs a billion turkeys crammed together in metal sheds, the noise can be terrifying. Imagine Giants Stadium with everyone on PCP.

This is how people have been shouting down the speakers at these town hall meetings.

WTF? Did someone pass a law that it’s OK to act like a complete ass to make sure someone who’s point of view is different from yours doesn’t get heard? Oh yeah, I forgot. A LOT of things have changed regarding the Constitution in the past eight years.

So the newest revision of the First Amendment must be Freedom of Speech for the Red(necks), White(skinned), and Blue(blooded).

On a side note, some jerk is trying to have some kind of twisted celebration of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki anniversaries. He’s touting some kind of advertising consultancy guaranteed to “Drop an Atom Bomb” on your competition. (Hmmmm… interesting that the name of his company contains the word ‘patriot.’

Who the Hell is IPS anyway?

I stumbled across a news organization called Inter Press Service News agency. They talk about representing the downtrodden, etc. in a mission statement that says… “IPS raises the voices of the South [???? Southern Hemisphere? South Africa?] and civil society [???]… IPS tells the story underneath.”
OK, maybe so. But why in the world would ANY valid news organization in the modern world have the following disclaimer at the bottom of an article?

“/NOT FOR PUBLICATION IN AUSTRALIA, CANADA, NEW ZEALAND, CZECH REPUBLIC, IRELAND, POLAND, THE UNITED STATES, AND THE UNITED KINGDOM/ (END/2008) ”

I check you out in more detail. Maybe I’m missing something.

Sort-of Saving Second Base

As the Colorado Rockies prepare for their first World Series, it is interesting that something else has popped up in the news. It seems that Haley and Jessica, two girls from a Salina Kansas high school, decided to raise some money for breast cancer charities by selling a t-shirt. Unfortnately their plan ran into a couple of snags.
First, their high school refused to allow them to sell the shirts at football games because officials determined the design, two baseballs over the words Save 2nd Base, was inappropriate for high school. Sorry, Ward Cleavers of the world, on this one we disagree. However, the design they used had already been trademarked by the Rooney Foundation, which had every right to ask the girls to stop selling the shirts.
Great idea, we applaud your spunk and determination Haley and Jessica-you both should have bright careers ahead of you.
We’ll be watching for your next–original–idea!

Thoughts on this September Day – the 11th

A food court, fifty feet away from the noise and light of the Venetian hotel casino, seems like an odd place to be working today. September 11. I stepped out of the shower this morning, and put on old blue — my old, beaten, comfortable NYPD t-shirt. It’s been a tradition on this day since the world shook. As I walked toward the elevator, a thought crossed my mind and I turned around and changed — into a t-shirt from another resort. I don’t know why, but it just felt like the thing to do.

Old blue’s waiting. I’ll spend several hours working later this afternoon wrapped in the comfortable cotton.

Hugs for Pakistani Minister – and a Single-Finger Salute to her critics

Here is a single-finger salute to the two Pakistani clerics from the Lal Masjid mosque who issued an edict against the country’s minister of tourism. The fatwa alleges that SHE (we at 3c2f will ALWAYS support women in high office) hugged her parachute instructor after a fundraising jump in France. A jump for the purpose of raising money for the victims of a 2005 Pakistani earthquake.

It is with greatest respect and admiration that we extend a symbolic hug to her and millions like her around the world.

Some questions we pose to Maulana Abdul Aziz, the mosque’s chief cleric, are:

What specifically has YOUR mosque done in the way of fundraising for the relief effort?
Do you and your subordinates often speak with your grey matter totally disengaged, or is actual thinking a forbidden act…?
What are you going to do when you find out your 70 virgins are all unspoiled man-eating Bengal tigers?

Hard Drinkers, Have We Got a Town for You!

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, over 100 people showed up for a City Council Meeting in Lilburn GA to talk about a new ordinance that would ban karaoke, trivia games, card playing and dancing. Wow!

Whut do ya do?

Hell, Jimmy Rex, bars are for drinkin’ you know that! Ever time somebody starts singin’ that karaoke stuff people stop drinkin’ to sing along. I got cases and cases in the back room that’ll never git drunk that way.

Trivia? Hell no. Nobody in Lilburn can drink and think at the same time… can’t have that. Nope, no card playin’ either. Card players quit drinkin’ when their goldurn vision starts ta get blurry.

I’m not even gonna talk about dancin’. Hell people start rubbin’ tagether and next thing ya know they’re headin’ for the motel, steada stayin’ here drinkin’

Wow!
I’m ready to move to Lilburn. How about you?

Cranial Crap Award – March 8

This week’s “My Cranial Cavity is Full of Bricks and Sh*t” award goes to Sean McManus of CBS news. It seems that the CBS News with Katie Couric had slipped too far away from vanilla since coming on the air. He stated something about being ‘consistent enough so that every night you know what to expect from the CBS evening news’…

Here’s to Sean “Give Em Vanilla, I don’t care what they say, I know their favorite flavor is plain old vanilla” McManus….

What’s next… creating the news to ensure that there are no “surprises”?

Cranial Cavity Award – February 28

The current “My Cranial Cavity is Full of Bricks and Sh*t” award (the inaugural winner by the way) is the City Council for the City of Largo Fla.

It seems that the City Manager, who has done a “commendable” job for the past 14 years has been canned. The reason?

According (in an AP report earlier today) to Commissioner Mary Gray Black, who moved forward with the resolution to fire the City Manager, his decision to undergo a sex-change operation suddenly invalidated all the years of good works and benefits to the city… destroyed integrity, trust, and respect…

I guess she’s saying that the best way to destroy integrity, trust and respect is to be honest with yourself…

The way the world is going… it looks like we’ll be giving out the “Cranial Crap” award on a regular basis.
